Youth Employability and Entrepreneurship

KIE is developing an evidence-based model that equips youth with skills for entrepreneurship and employment, increases earning potential in local labor markets, and builds the agency, confidence, and resilience needed to thrive in a changing economy. KIE designs programs that strengthen life skills, technical and professional competencies, innovation, and pathways to self-employment, while supporting youth to understand and respond to local labor market and entrepreneurship needs. Its interventions focus on the following domains:
• Sustainable Agriculture and Local Value Chains – promoting modern practices, market linkages, and value-chain development
• Green Jobs and the Ecological Economy – supporting environmentally sustainable employment opportunities
• Emerging Technologies and Social Innovations – equipping youth with digital skills and fostering innovation
• Future Founder (Entrepreneurship and Start-Up Support) – guiding youth through business idea development, planning, mentorship, financial literacy, and small enterprise creation
• Vocational and Professional Skills (Work-Based Learning) – providing certified, market-relevant technical training combined with hands-on, workplace experience
• Employability and Life Skills (Work Ready Now) – strengthening soft skills, workplace readiness, professional behavior, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and socio-professional inclusion
• Livelihood Bootcamps for Out-of-School Youth–KIE designs and delivers intensive livelihood bootcamps for out-of-school youth, particularly young women and adolescent mothers who are unable to access or complete secondary education. These bootcamps provide accelerated, practical learning pathways that strengthen foundational life skills, market-relevant vocational and entrepreneurial competencies, and financial literacy. Grounded in local labor market and entrepreneurship analysis, the program supports participants to identify viable income-generating opportunities, develop small business ideas, and access pathways to self-employment or decent work. The bootcamps also build agency, confidence, and resilience, enabling youth to overcome social and economic barriers and establish sustainable livelihoods within their communities.
